  1. We love and adore our dear, sweet Mom. What a legacy of love, faith, service and tender care she left all of her family. Words cannot describe the emotions we feel at this time, but we are so thankful that a loving Father has taken her home where she can finally rest. Years ago Mom was the shining light of seven young lives, and now our family, ten times that size, continues to be blessed by her bright example. Today, those sparkling eyes, gorgeous smile, caring heart and talented hands will be enjoyed on the "other side". We know that by now Dad's reward is complete, elated to have his Sweetheart with him again, and in his enthusiastic way will show her the delights and wonders that await her.

To you younger family members: just remember Grandma now with your favorite memories. I know you each have some, because you were the world to Grandma and Grandpa. Endless hours making you a quilt, writing books so that you would know them better, fixing delicious meals, initiating the family trust, inviting you to the house to visit, or just writing you a note... think of all the love they had for you! They were thankful and proud of each of you. Rejoice in the extraordinary gift that the Lord gave you in having such wonderful people for your grandparents. I pray now that each of you will be blessed with comfort and understanding. Know that Grandma is in a better place and that she fought this last trial with her usual faith, grace and without complaint. She was valiant to the end and that is what she and Grandpa want all of us to do.

What an remarkable blessing is has been for me to have two such amazing parents! There is nothing I could have ever done to deserve such a tender mercy as that. Mom: enjoy the rewards that await you and may you forever be encircled in the arms of love. I love you, sweet, sweet Momma.

  2. Vickie,
You have expressed my thoughts exactly. And in such a tender and sweet way.
I am so grateful that you were there to help me through those last few days.

    To my sweet little Momma,
I love you. You are in my heart, my mind, my thoughts,my hands, my face, my testimony, my mothering, my talents. Everything good about me came from your example. I always have, and always will be honored that I was your child.
    Yours Eternally,
    Lolly

  3. The card below was sent to all of Edna's children shortly after her passing. I apologize for taking so long to post this sweet tribute to Mom from her neice. CR

I've been thinking of you all over the past week and send my deepest condolences on the loss of your Mom, my Aunt Edna. I've been reading her recent book on their mission in Zimbawbwe, reflecting on what a wonder she was-(for her age and for our cohort!) She was so talented, loyal, faithful, creative, determined and warm. Although I sadly had never had the chance to meet her once I reached adulthood, I always enjoyed her Christmas missives, beautifully handwritten letters with their tales of all of their (hers and Uncle Art's) travels, your families' doings and of her ongoing creative and church-related contributions. She reminded me of our Nannie Smith with her energy and artistic talent!
I know that there is no way to ease your loss, but I just wanted to say hello and give you all a "written hug". You've all (I hear) have been a great help to your Mom--it gave her great joy and comfort. Yours, sincerely, Lisa Smith (Nelson's daughter.)
